Knit your very own vintage Mary Maxim Moose Cardigan using our timeless graph‑style pattern. This iconic design includes instructions for set‑in sleeves, a button or zipper front, and a cozy shawl collar. A true heritage knitted garment that never goes out of style.
Originally crafted with Bouquet Polar wool, a bulky weight which offered 4 oz per skein at the time, this cardigan was built for warmth, durability, and classic style. Today, we offer a wide selection of bulky yarns to help you create the perfect version for your wardrobe—and we highly recommend Mary Maxim Titan or Premier Basix chunky, both of which offer softness, structure, and beautiful stitch definition. Keep in mind that yardage varies by brand, so be sure to check your labels as you plan your project.
Materials List: MC Sz 38 (10 skeins), Sz 40 (11 skeins). 42-44 (12 skein), CC1 Moose, CC2 Trees, CC3 Water, CC4 Shadow, (1 skein each color), 8 large buttons or open-ended zipper. You'll need U.S. 6 (4.25 mm) and 9 (5.50 mm) needles to bring it together. Fits sizes 38-40-42-44—Intermediate knit.
Stitch Requirements: Cast on, cast off, knit, purl, repeat, increase, decrease, slip, color changes using Fair Isle and coloured pattern knitting methods.

I am a good customer of Mary Maxim Canada. They have a large variety of products, frequent sales, lots of coupons for additional savings, and a good reward program. I also like the crochet colour-packs that include a pattern and all of the yarn needed to do that project. This is a good idea when looking for inspiration, and especially useful when doing a complex pattern with lots of different yarn and colours - it arrives in one convenient kit! I like that even when things are on back order, they still accept your order and will mail it to you as soon as the materials are back in stock. Shipping is fast.
I really like the Caron One Pound yarn. It's good value for the money and good quality Weight 4 yarn that you can mix and match with many other similar weight yarn like Red Heart Super Saver. The colour choices are good. The yarn threads stay together and are thick and easy to work with. The yearn isn't as stiff as the Red Heart Super Saver, and a little softer, so if you want a nicer yarn to work with (not as scratchy), this one will do!
I was looking for a simple pattern for a blanket that would include a few squares and a ripple, without having to stitch together the squares. This pattern does the trick. It involves first making each motif (the squares) and then attaching them together into a band using stitch-as-you-go and then using the angles as foundations for future ripple rows. It's super easy to do - a beginner will be able to do it. Very versatile - use the yarn or colours you want. The pattern is 2 pages long - one page to explain each row of a full square motif, and a half-square motif, and another about how to join them and create the ripple. The yarn to use is listed (though I think it no longer exists, but it can easily be replaced - they suggest DK weight yarn). I would add a border and/or tassel or pompom at the end to complete the project (which is not included in the pattern). clear and easy to follow. No crochet diagram provided.
This yarn is so so so soft. So soft - I can't stress this enough. So pleasant to run your fingers through them.
It's thick, so of course, crocheting with it will be harder on your hands, but at least it is pleasant and soft while doing so.
The colours are very nice and soft on the eyes - they shine, which is something the photo doesn't bring out.
If you are looking for a nice pattern to use this yarn, consider the Yarnspiration Loopy Dots crochet blanket (https://www.yarnspirations.com/en-ca/products/bernat-loopy-dots-crochet-blanket?variant=45490863079739). That's what I purchased this yarn to do. I purchased the yarn in different colours so that each loopy dot would be in a different (matching) colour.
Like all Red Heart Super Saver yarn, the yarn is a bit scratchy (it's not the softest yearn). But, there are three reasons why I keep going back to this yarn again and again.
1) It's budget friendly.
2) The yarn actually has lots of structure to it, so that my stitches look well defined and the finished product holds itself up nicely. So in other words, the final crocheted project looks nice.
3) This colour in particular is absolutely lovely. I just keep going back to it again and again - it matches nicely with Red Heart Super Saver yarn in colours dark blue/navy, aran, white, and amethyst/purple.
